Abstract
This research paper
presents a comprehensive study on the progress of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme
implemented in Gujarat. The PM Vishwakarma Scheme aims to empower traditional
artisans and craftspeople by providing them skill training on advance tools as
well as supporting them through financial assistance and toolkits. It is a
scheme with a decentralized approach, wherein Local Self-Governing Bodies
(LSGBs) - such as Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies—are
entrusted with the initial identification and recommendation of eligible
beneficiaries. In line with this, the study evaluates the screening process led
by local self-governing bodies as well as the progress and inclusivity of the
marginalized communities, as a beneficiary across the districts of Gujarat
under the said scheme.
