Assessing the effects of job satisfaction on staff performance of selected staff in the banking industry of Ghana

Abstract
The study investigates the effects of job satisfaction on performance
of selected staff in the banking industry of Ghana. The descriptive design was
employed. The target population was the staff of three commercial banks in
Accra (Stanbic Bank, GCB Bank and Ecobank). A total of 110 respondents were
conveniently selected to participate in the study and data analysis was carried
out with the use of Statistical Package for Social Science version 2.0. Among
the findings were that, organizational characteristics, job characteristics,
and dispositional characteristics formed the determinants of job satisfaction.
Also, organizational characteristics, job characteristics, and dispositional
characteristics were found to have significant positive relationship with staff
performance. However, organizational characteristics has the highest adjusted R
square of 0.45%, followed by job characteristics, adjusted R square of 0.35%
before dispositional characteristics, adjusted R square of 0.25%. Managerial
implications and directions for future studies are discussed.
