Abstract
When an electric potential gradient is applied, there is motion of a fluid with respect to a rigid wall. This process is called electroosmosis. Coefficient of electro-osmotic permeability of the soil which is zeta potential dependent, is one aspect by which rate of electro-osmotic flow is managed. Many researches have measured the variation of the coefficient of electro-osmotic permeability of soils. The value varies from 4.91 x 10-6 to 1.57 x 10-5 cm2 S-1V-1. The Helmholtz-Smoluchowski model is largely used to explain electroosmosis process. In this paper, by first discussing the cause of flow electroosmosis in soil is studied.
