Abstract
Tissue engineering is an interdisciplinary field that applies principles and methods of engineering and the life sciences towards the development of biological substitutes that restore, maintain, and improve the function of damaged tissues and organs.
The goal of tissue engineering is to promote healing, and ideally, true regeneration of a tissue’s structure and function, more predictably, more quickly, less invasively, and more qualitatively than allowed by previous passive techniques.
